A Suite Experience with the Houston Rockets

An evening that started with impatient youthful fits & frustrated traffic-jam sighs, quickly changed into excited anticipation as we entered the Toyota Center to see the Houston Rockets take on the Charlotte Bobcats.

With smiling faces we joined into the sea of red fans making their way to their seats until we broke away from the current to the elevator taking us to the suites level. We both entered filled with first-time jitters, his due to his anxiousness to see his first basketball game (worth remembering) and mine caused by my first time to see a basketball game from this perspective.  When we finally made it to our seats, after checking out all the amenities, it took no time at all for both of us to revert into our energetic and very verbal fan mode.  It's Game Time!

As we cheered & chanted, the Rockets (despite the Bobcat's Henderson challenging our goal for a victory both offensively & defensively) answered back with a high energy point-scoring 1st half. Expecting this energy to flow right into the 2nd half, the game seemed to simmer early in the third quarter to a less aggressive tempo.  Yet, this did not stop the excited "defense" yells & impromptu dances that were happening in the seat next to me. As fourth quarter came to a close (even through some close call plays by the Bobcats) the Rockets came out on top 109-95 and as my son would say, "Whoa, they have 109 points!"

While this game gave the Rockets another victory for the season; it also gave my son and I a greater victory in another shared experience that neither one of us will be forgetting any time soon.

A Show for Everyone - 2013 Houston Auto Show

I remember walking into a room where the entire floor was covered with cars & trucks of all sorts and in the center of it all finding a little boy smiling from ear to ear who was completely engulfed in his own imaginative automobile world.  While at that time I only saw & addressed my son's messy room; I now understand the feeling behind that smile as I stood in the center of a floor covered with life-size cars & trucks at the 2013 Houston Auto Show.

Through the years, this event & I have a history that has helped flip my interest in cars from the outside-in, overall turning my attention away from sleek line with beautifully painted exteriors and more towards the desire to possibly hear the roar of a V12 hidden under the hood.  Still whether coming for the specs or aesthetics, the Reliant Center provided the ideal opportunity for every make & model to show-off in beauty, performance & concepts for the future.

Even the future drivers in the home were provided with plenty to entertain them while the "big kids" (myself included) enjoy the $50,000+ toys.  This year's Kid Fun Zone took a whole new direction from previous shows. The highly organized check-in, spacious location (independent of the Auto Show) & energetic & alert staff attendants made the Kid Fun Zone a welcomed place to both tired-legged parents & short-attention span kids.

The only thing left to say is, "Check out the 2014 Houston Auto Show, where there's sure to be fun for everyone."
